How to Apply Iron-On Patches
Fast, simple, and reliable — follow these easy steps to attach your patch securely for long-lasting wear.
You’ll Need
- ✔ Standard household iron
- ✔ Thin cloth or parchment paper
- ✔ Flat, heat-resistant surface (no ironing board cover with foam)
- ✔ Water only if your iron requires it — keep steam OFF
Before You Start
1) Preheat: Set your iron to the highest temperature safe for the fabric. Always turn steam off.
2) Lay Flat: Place the garment on a stable surface and smooth out wrinkles for even pressure.
Step-by-Step Application
Position
Place your patch exactly where you want it. Double-check alignment before you start heating.
Protect
Cover the patch with a thin cloth or parchment paper to protect colors and avoid scorching.
Press
Apply firm, steady pressure for 15–30 seconds using dry heat. Don’t move the iron — keep it still for best adhesion.
Seal Edges
Repeat pressing on all edges and corners to ensure an even seal across the entire patch.
Cool Down
Allow the patch to cool completely before handling. If any area lifts, re-press for 10–15 seconds.
Pro Tip
For extra hold, turn the garment inside out and press again from the back side with a cloth barrier.
Do & Don’t
- ✔ Use dry heat (steam OFF)
- ✔ Press firmly — don’t slide
- ✔ Protect with a thin cloth
- ✔ Test on similar fabric first
- ✘ Don’t iron directly on PVC
- ✘ Don’t skip the cool-down
- ✘ Don’t use on heat-sensitive nylon
- ✘ Don’t wash within 24 hours
After-Care
Wait 24 hours before washing to allow adhesive to fully cure.
Wash inside out on a gentle cycle and avoid high heat in the dryer.
If an edge lifts, re-cover with cloth and press again for 10–15 seconds.
